Aim & Objective

The key objective is to expose the participants to the challenges of the trade and sustainability debate with emphasis on various issues in the context of trade in environmentally sensitive goods and services; environment-related trade barriers and measures; access to environmentally sensitive technology; Trade and environmental quality including pollution haven hypothesis; strong conceptual framework on sustainability and deliberation on environmental issues in bilateral, regional and multilateral forums, particularly in regard to the protection and promotion of the interest of the Global South.

 

The emphasis would be to make the participants understand the technical features of trade and environment and its application in national contexts. The intent of the course is to offer knowledge and skills to integrate sustainable trade practices in their policy framework and managerial decision.

 

The course would create an important platform for interaction and exchange of ideas as the course lectures would complemented by study tours and field visits that would provide practical and learning exposure.

Mode of Evaluation

Each Participant is expected to make a power point presentation on a subject relevant to the programme. An assessment is made on the basis of the presentation and brief write-up.

Work & Experience

Experience in Policy/Research/Diplomacy/Management in the field of International Trade/ Environmental Economics/Sustainable Development/ South-South Cooperation and North-South Cooperation

Target Group

Junior to middle-level officials from Ministry of Foreign Affairs/ Commerce/Environment/ Economic Affairs and related Ministries dealing with Trade and Sustainability

Representatives from Research Institutions/Universities/ Civil Society Organization engaged in Trade and Environment related research
