ABOUT THE COURSE
RIS has been conducting a variety of capacity building programmes under the ITEC Programme of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, for the participants from ITEC partner countries. Since January 2017, RIS has initiated a unique ITEC programme on ‘Science Diplomacy’. So far, four editions of this Programme have been conducted in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. After a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19 pandemic, this Programme is resuming this year. The programme covers a wide range of themes, including various aspects of Science Diplomacy, trends in global Science and Technology and the growing role of South-South Cooperation in Science and Technology. The dates for next i.e. fifth edition of this Programme will be announced soon. Members of the civil service, diplomatic community, academia, research, media, and scholars engaged in science, technology and innovation (STI) related themes and officials dealing in foreign affairs or managing international projects in STI are eligible to apply for the programme.
COURSE CONTENT
The two-week course is designed for participants interested in issues related to, inter alia, Science, Technology and Innovation (STI), global issues in S&T governance, and South-South Cooperation. This course will familiarise them with global S&T landscape, global environmental governance, international co-operation in S&T and Innovation, and, South-South Cooperation. The course includes specialised lecturers, case studies, group discussions and field (and cultural) visits. These will be complemented by background materials and texts. Course agenda will be provided before commencement of the programme.

- Concept and Practice of Science Diplomacy
- Modalities of Science Diplomacy at Bilateral, Regional and Multilateral Level
- STI, Development Challenges and SDGs
- South South Cooperation and S&T and Innovation.

The Programme covers return travel of the participants between his/her home country and India, accommodation, living allowance, book allowance etc., as per the rules governing ITEC/ SCAAP Programme of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
